King Zwelithini’s remarks mistranslated – Zulu Royal Household
The Zulu Royal Household is shocked and dismayed following what could be described as reckless translation of His Majesty’s speech he delivered during the Battle of Isandlwana on the 22nd January 2012.
The main focus of his speech was on the creation of a compassionate society with men protecting the vulnerable members of society especially the elderly, women and children. He condemned those who were involved in the murder of an elderly couple from Lindelani few weeks ago – Rafael Zukhulu and Elsa Dubazane.
In the context of rampant sexual abuse, His Majesty remarked: “During the good olden days our forefathers dedicated their lives for the good of the nation. Men would go for months in the battles to fight the enemies without their wives but did not harass each other sexually and there were no cases of rape of women. Nowadays you even have men who rape other men. This is a clear sign of moral decay. We condemned those involved – no matter who you are.”
At not stage did His Majesty condemned gay relations or same sex relations.
His Majesty pointed out that his forefathers and King Cetshwayo was a celebrated genius who inspired his warriors to fight for a common objective.
He said there was a rare breed of men who became an embodiment of a strong nation capable of withstanding any challenge.
He went further stating that these men became the champions of good values. They sacrificed all what they had including their families to protect the nation.
“Our culture moulded the youth to become men who showed exceptional commitment to do the following:-
- to protect the nation from enemies;
- to fear and respect the law;
- to live healthy and lead a clean lifestyle.
“It is true that we are running short of such a breed of men,” he stated.
