CHANGES TO NATIONAL EXECUTIVE AND SA POLICE SERVICE

Ladies and gentlemen of the media, good afternoon.

Thank you for joining us at this special briefing on changes in the national executive and the South African Police Service.

ANC YOUTH LEAGUE NOTES THE OUTCOMES OF THE NDC AND WILL CONVENE A NATIONAL EXECUTIVE COMMITTEE FOR GUIDANCE.

The ANC YOUTH LEAGUE notes the outcomes of the ANC National Disciplinary Committee on the disciplinary processes that were instituted against the leadership of the ANC YL since August 2011. The ANC YL will convene its National Executive Committee on Sunday, the 4th of March 2012 to seek guidance from the leadership of the ANC Youth League on the way forward. The ANC YL will thereafter hold a Press conference on Monday, the 5th of March in Luthuli House Ground Floor Foyer at 11h00 to announce the outcomes of the NEC meeting.

NDC STATEMENT ON MITIGATION AND AGGRAVATION FINDINGS

1. Comrades Julius Malema, Sindiso Magaqa and Floyd Shivambu were charged and found guilty of misconduct in terms of rule 25 of the ANC Constitution.  The findings were confirmed on appeal and the National Disciplinary Committee (NDC) has heard evidence in mitigation and aggravation of sanction.

Firstly, I would like to thank the Community Law Centre for giving me the opportunity to deliver this 8^th Dullah Omar Memorial Lecture, as well as apologise for having obliged the Centre, last year, to postpone the delivery of this Lecture.

I would also like to salute the Centre for having instituted this Lecture Series, thus to honour and sustain the memory of a truly outstanding South African.

ANC YOUTH LEAGUE NATIONAL EXECUTIVE COMMITTE LEKGOTLA STATEMENT

The ANC Youth League held its National Executive Committee Lekgotla between the 9th and 12th of February 2012 at the Saint George Conference Centre, in Tshwane. The NEC Lekgotla was attended by delegates of the ANC Youth League from regional, provincial and national executive committees from across length and breadth of South Africa. The Lekgotla was opened on the 9th of February by ANC Youth League President Julius Malema. The opening address was open to the media, broadcast live on some of the television channels and the text of the opening address circulated to all structures of the ANC YL and members of the media.

1. Welcome to the National Executive Committee Lekgotla of the ANC Youth League, which meets in February 2012, the year of the African National Congress, which we have defined as the year for economic freedom in our lifetime. Here we have leaders of the ANC Youth League from the National Executive Committee, Provincial Executive Committees and Regional Executive Committees of the ANC Youth League from across the country. Representatives of the Progressive Youth Alliance and other progressive formations are also in attendance to come and reflect on the progress we have made since the 24 th National Congress of the ANC Youth League, which we held in Johannesburg in June 2011.
2. The year 2012 is a very important year in the history of the African National Congress and the entire National Liberation Movement in South Africa, Africa and the world. It is important because the ANC is celebrating its 100 years of existence in the year 2012. Many voices have been heard from within the ANC, the country, the continent, and the world in celebration and commemoration of the great struggles of the people of South Africa against a repressive, racist, segregationist, and murderous system of colonial dispossession and apartheid domination of the black majority and Africans in particular in this Southern part of Africa. Many voices have been heard in commemoration of the many lives that were lost in the course of struggle for freedom, liberty, and total emancipation from political, social and economic domination of the majority of South Africans.

It is an honour to speak to South Africans in this House and in their homes and viewing centres around the country.

I also extend a warm welcome to Ambassadors and High Commissioners representing 146 countries, with which South Africa has diplomatic relations. We value your presence in our country.

King Zwelithini’s remarks mistranslated – Zulu Royal Household

The Zulu Royal Household is shocked and dismayed following what could be described as reckless translation of His Majesty’s speech he delivered during the Battle of Isandlwana on the 22nd January 2012.
